For me, this year's World Cup is something special. It is the first time being held in Africa. And, South Africa is the host this year! I guess I shouldn't have written that here because everyone knows that.
I really hope that this year we can have a new winner. And, my vote goes to Australia! Seriously. Well, I don't watch much football so I don't know which team has the strongest players. But I vote for Australia because basically for me Australian football team has improved a lot in these last 5 years. But too bad Australia is in Group D with Germany, Serbia and Ghana! I think Group B is very interesting. There are Argentina, Nigeria, South Korea and Greece.
What I love about this year's world cup is that South Africa isn't just simply the host but it presents African culture and spirit. This year's theme song is superb. It is collaboration between Shakira and a local band of South Africa bringing a bit African groove in it. Well, compared to World Cup 2002 in South Korea and Japan, did they present Asian culture? Not at all. The mascots had nothing to do with Asian culture and neither did the theme song. They were just simply the host.
So, it is no longer time to frown. It is time to be happy because World Cup is in the air. And, this time for Africa!
