Neunkirchen is the second biggest city (after Saarbruecken) in Saarland, Germany. It is not really interesting actually. It is not as beautiful as Saarlouis, my favorite city in Saarland. But however, it's the state's second biggest city. So, it is also important. Neunkirchen has a mall and I guess it's the biggest I've seen in Saarland. It is Saarpark. Neunkirchen also has Gondwana. It is like a prehistoric theme park. So you can see robots of dinosaurs. And, Neunkirchen has the best zoo in Saarland. It is definitely better than Saarbruecken's.
I told you before I went there last Sunday. And, Neunkirchen is like a dead town on Sunday. There aren't many buses too and that makes Neunkirchers not so mobile on Sunday. I even had to wait for an hour in Stummdenkmal to the zoo. So, I decided to get around and capture some pictures.
This is Saarpark, the mall in Neunkirchen. It is quite interesting. It is better than Saarbasar in Saarbruecken. I guess it is so far the biggest shopping mall in Saarland. Probably the SaarGalerie will be its big rival.
This is so lovely
So after waiting for an hour, the bus to the zoo arrived. You can reach the zoo by bus number 304 and 312. You can get in those 2 buses from Hauptbahnhof or from Stummdenkmal. If you get there by 304, you must get off at Tiergartenweg and then go to the entrance on foot. It takes just about 10 minutes. The busstop for 312 is Neunkircher Zoo. It stops right in front of the entrance gate. Neunkircher Zoo is open everyday from 8.30-18.00 from March until October. From November until February it opens just until 17.00. On Sundays and public holidays it opens at 10.30 and closes at 17.00. The ticket costs for adult 6EUR and 3,50EUR for children from 3-16 years old.
On Tag des Schafes (Sheep Day) last Sunday the zoo displayed several sheep races mostly from the Alpines. We could also see how people shave sheep's fur. I guess everyone knows sheep's fur is a very good and definitely not cheap. The zoo also organized a sheep-shaving championship. The winner was supposed to be the fastest shaver.
And, now it's time for tour around the zoo. Unfortunately I could not take some pictures of the orangutans. They were like so far and hid on a tall tree and I guess nobody could take good pictures of them that time. But there are many nice animals here. Surprisingly Neunkircher Zoo focuses itself in Asian animals. Besides orangutan, we can see Asian elephants, vietnamese Sikhas, Timor deers, and peacocks. It also has several animals from the down under like wallabies, emus, kookaburras and dingos. It also has giraffes, zebras, ostriches, beavers, falcons, grizzly bears, camels, llamas, etc. So, here are some nice pictures from the zoo
And these are my favorite photos
And, I was so lucky the peacock spreaded its tail right when I was there. It looked tremendously gorgeous! This is the best picture I took.

And, this is my favorite attraction there. I always love sea mammals. They are really smart and easy to train. I really wish I could have seals or dolphins. Even when I was a kid my favorite Pokemon character was Seal and Dugong. Sea mammals are just very cool and cute.
