Movie Review: Easy A

I once wrote that I disagreed with the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". But I think I should agree now.

So a friend of mine showed me this movie Easy A. And I was like "Euuyh this must be only about high school bitches." But because I was bored to death, I decided to watch it. And, in fact BAM this film rocks my world. It's one of my favorite movies too.

This might contain spoilers. Might!

I have to say this movie has a similarity with Juno. Juno is a masterpiece, everyone knows that. I just love the main characters of these two films, a high school girl who faces her own problems by herself. I just wish I'd have a daughter like Juno and Olive.

Okay, yeah so the movie is about a girl named Olive (Emma Stone). She is just an ordinary school girl, definitely not popular. She has a best friend named Rhi. And Rhi wants to take Olive to dine together with her parents in a weekend. But Olive doesn't like Rhi's parents because they are nudists. And, Olive lies that she has a date with a guy named George. And the next day, Rhi asks her how the date was. Being forced and pressured by Rhi's curiosity, Olive lies she lost her virginity. Unfortunately Mary-Anne (Amanda Bynes), an extreme Christian, overhears what Olive tells to Rhi. And then the rumor begins to spread to the whole school that Olive has just lost her virginity. She is suddenly popular because of this totally false rumor.

Things get worse when Brandon asks for Olive's help. Brandon is a gay and bullied because of his sexuality. He asks Olive to pretend to sleep with him. So they go to a party and act as if they have sex. They moan and make noises. Everyone hears them. And finally everyone thinks she is paid for sex, like a prostitute. She then embroiders a red A on all her clothes, inspired by her reading assignment. Until finally she decides to stop bitching around because things have gone too far.

Why do I love this movie?

1. It's not cliché
Most teen movies have these characters. The total bitch (excuse my language lol) is usually a naughty cheerleader. But here, the bitch is a very nice girl, an extremist Christian. She always judges people in Jesus' or God's name.

2. Olive and Todd!
Oh my God this Olive and Todd (Penn Badgley) really make good couple. Todd likes Olive and Olive likes Todd too. But they don't show their feelings. They always get into these awkward-but-cute conversations.

3. Olive's family
I envy her because her parents are the coolest parents ever, especially her dad.

4. Witty!
I always like witty films. And Easy A is also witty, just like Juno or Date Night. I'll write some of my favorite lines later.

5. Moral value
Don't judge people based on just a rumor. Olive is in fact a nice girl. She pretends to be an adulterer to help those virgin nerdy boys. But in fact she still keeps her faith. She tries so hard to remain virgin. And through this film I learn not to be affected by what other people say about us. Just like what Olive says in the end, "(What she wants to do), it is nobody's goddamn business".

6. Olive herself
She's interesting and beautiful. But the greatest thing is she is tough. She finds the solutions of her problems alone. And she is a good friend. She still treats Rhi as a friend although Rhi hates her.

Here are my favorite lines from the movie

MaryAnne: Olive. That's your name, right?
Olive: Yeaaah. And you're MaryAnne. We've got 9 classes together since kindergarten.

Brandon: Do you wanna go out with me?
Olive: What?
Brandon: I mean like do you wanna be my girlfriend?
Olive: Uh Brandon, just a couple hours ago you told me you're a gay

Olive's mom: You know, I dated a homosexual once. For a long time actually
Olive: Dear God, dear Lord, tell me you didn't marry and have children with him

Olive's dad: Is everything alright? Sounds like you're having sex in here, which I know can't be true due to the fact that you have a homosexual boyfriend
Olive: He's not my boyfriend!
Olive's dad: Hey! No judgement, all God's children, it's fine. I was gay once for a while. No big deal, we all do it, it's okay.

Olive: Hey Anson
Anson (Rhi's boyfriend): Hey
Olive: I just realized the funniest thing. My name is an anagram for 'I love'
Anson: What's a- what's an anagram?
Olive: Look it up, big boy

Mr. Grifith: That would be when everyone is putting everything on facebook. I don't know what your generation's fascination is with documenting your every thought but it can assure you they're not all diamonds. Roman is having an okay day and bought a coke zero at the gas station, raise the roof? Who gives an ass?!

Mrs. Grifith: Okay I've never seen that girl (Olive) before in my life
Mr. Grifith: That doesn't surprise me
Mrs. Grifith: I know but I'm a guidance counselor, I should know all the students, especially the one who dresses like a prostitute

Olive: I knew there was one person to count on to set stories straight, Brandon. I'd helped him, and eventhough it'll destroy his new reputation as a straight stud, I knew he'd help me.
a girl: OH MY GOD! Did you hear that Brandon run away from home? Yeah, totally, he left his parents a note that said "I'm gay, bitches" and then he skipped out with some big old gay black guy. AAAH!

Olive: I really like this guy. I might even lose my virginity to him. I don't know. When it will happen you know maybe 5 minutes from now, tonight or six months from now or maybe on our wedding night, the really amazing thing is, it is nobody's goddamn business.
